Product & Process

Calcination is a high temperature process for transforming the physical properties of raw petroleum coke. Raw petroleum coke is stored in a closed shed, then transfer to day bins for easy controlling of feed quality and fed into a rotary kiln in controlled ratios. The calcination process raises the material temperatures in the kiln to around 1200 to 1300 deg C depending on the specification of C P Coke required by Customers.

The material flows in a counter direction to the temperature controlled hot gases fired from a kiln burner.

During the heat transfer process, the material comes across various reactive zones where it demoisturization, devolatalization and then to densification zones to improve critical physical properties e.g. electrical conductivity , real density & oxidation characteristics.

The exhaust gases leaving the cooler and kiln are vented into an incinerator. The incinerator exhaust gases are subsequently sent to a Gas cleaning system through boiler. The Gas cleaning system is designed to give the desired outlet emission level after passing through this system and bag house. This calcined coke is used by the Aluminum industry for production of anodes for alumina reduction & is also used in the manufacturing of graphite products, pre-baked graphite electrodes, titanium dioxide industries. It is also widely used in the Steel industry as a Re-carburizer.

PCIC uses statistical process control to calcine the green cokes to an optimum level to meet a customer’s requirements. The calcined coke is first cooled in Cooler by water quenching and conveyed to storage silos through belt conveyor. PCIC have 3 storage silos with capacity of each is 10000 MT.

Calcined Petroleum Coke (CPC)
is a form of highly electrically conductive, densed Carbon with very low specific Electrical Resistance, and having fixed Carbon of approximately 99.5%.

CPC is used extensively as Anode in Alumina Smelters, and in the manufacturing of Graphite/ Graphite Electrodes, and Thermal Paste for Ferro Alloys & allied industries in Arc Furnaces. It is also used in various Steel Industries for – Melting of Steel , Recurburisation and for making Special Steels & Alloys.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Protecting the environment is one of core activities of PCIC. The company implemented a standard procedure for Environment and ensures these standards fall firmly within the guidelines outlined by Kuwait’s Environment Public Authority (KEPA).

PCIC’s drive to safeguard the environment from construction through to operations ensures zero harm to the environment and the communities in which it operates.

 Emission Control
PCIC has incorporated one of the most advanced emission control systems in the world, with monitoring equipment installed for continuous monitoring. Efficient Gas Sulfur Absorption (GSA) and Bag house were installed to ensure minimum emissions to the atmosphere. Emissions are monitored using Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS).

 Waste Management
The production of the calcined coke and control of emissions results in a generation of solid and liquid wastes. All of these are identified and appropriate procedures for handling, storage and disposal are employed. Opportunities for waste reduction and for improvements in waste handling are continually assessed and implemented. In particular, opportunities to reuse, recycle and recover waste materials are pursued wherever feasible.

 Water Use and Recycling
Calcination process is essentially a dry process. However, some amount of water is needed for the cooling process and for cleaning. PCIC uses desalinated water to meet potable water requirements at the plant. Our aim is to minimize the consumption of water and maximize the reuse and recycling of treated waste water.

To make PCIC a zero effluent discharge calciner, a state-of-the-art industrial effluent treatment system was installed. Treated water from waste water treatment plant is recycled for reuse of the water for plantation and for plant purpose as a potable water.

Safety Standards

We, at PCIC, manage our activities in a responsible manner to avoid causing any harm to the health and safety of our employees, contract personnel and visitors.

We apply OH&S standards and guidelines; provide the necessary resources, training and education and measure performance for continuous improvement.

Pursuant to this goal, we shall:
We emphasize great importance on workplace safety in all of our operations and implement Kuwait standards for industrial health and safety.

Workplace safety is an important factor that we take into account when carrying out our expansion plans and increasing production capacity at the plant. Our contractors follow our guidance and are required to comply with such safety standards.

We seek to minimize the risk of accidents, injuries and illness to our employees and our contractors’ employees by monitoring and improving our health and safety standards.

We have formulated and followed policies designed to create a safe work environment. We audit our operations every three months to monitor implementation of our guidelines.
